PREVIEW: Boston Breakers as Chicago Red Stars

Coming off their third straight victory to open the season, the Chicago Red Stars look to continue their best start in franchise history against the Boston Breakers today.

With the USWNT send-off series beginning Sunday against Ireland, both teams will be without their allocated players. That equates to a loss of Lori Chalupny, Julie Johnston, Shannon Boxx and Christen Press for the Red Stars while the Breakers will be without starting goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.

The Red Stars surged into the top of the table at the end of Week 4, topping Sky Blue FC as rookie Danielle Colaprico scored the game winner in the 55th minute for her first professional career goal. Saturday’s match marks the final match of a four game homestand for the Red Stars, which head coach Rory Dames will be looking to close out with a victory.

The Boston Breakers enter Saturday’s match after a 3-1 loss to Western New York Flash in a battle billed #MEWISVSMEWIS. Younger sister Samantha Mewis outplayed her sister, Breakers midfielder Kristie Mewis, scoring the game-tying goal in the 23rd minute. The Breakers will look to turn things around as they currently sit at the bottom of the league table with a single win in their first three matches.
