Despite being outshot by a 22-4 margin, the Boston Breakers fought to a 1-1 draw against Sky Blue FC.
Sky Blue had multiple chances to put their club in the lead if not for an impressive performance by Breakers goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, who made eight saves in the match.
Even with the advantage in shots, Sky Blue had a chance for the game winner in the 86th minute. Sky Blue was awarded a penalty kick after a free kick was deflected by a Breakers handball inside the 18-yard box. Camille Levin stepped up to the spot and drove her strike towards the side netting but Naeher dove right to make a crucial save.
Sky Blue was on the attack from the opening whistle and kicked off the game’s scoring in the 2nd minute. Christie Rampone played a pass up the right wing to Caitlin Foord, and the defender made her way through the Breakers’ backline before sending across in the direction of Kelley O’Hara for the finish.
The Breakers found an equalizer in the 32nd minute as midfielder Kristie Mewis played a through ball to forward Jazmine Reeves at the top of the box. Reeves chipped her strike into the far corner past Sky Blue keeper Jill Loyden.
Sky Blue FC goes on the road to Portland Wednesday while the Boston Breakers continue their road trip Friday against the Western New York Flash.
