Sanderson brace gives Breakers first win

The Boston Breakers defeated Sky Blue FC 3-2 for their first win of the season on Sunday in front of 1,263 fans at Harvard Stadium.

Boston, who came into Sunday’s match after a loss against the Dash, received a spirited performance from midfielder Lianne Sanderson who registered a brace.

Sanderson scored the game-winning goal in the 43rd minute after receiving a pass from Julie King and riffling a strike over keeper Jillian LoydenThe English-born forward added a 60th minute strike to put the Breakers two goals over Sky Blue FC.

Julie King opened the game’s scoring in the 15th minute after rebounding home Sanderson’s initial strike from 25 yards out.

Sky Blue FC forward Monica Ocampo equalized in the 29th minute and Ashley Nick added a stoppage time tally to bring Sky Blue within a goal.

The Breakers face Sky Blue FC again May 3, in a Week 4 match up at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.
