Dunn played in 67 minutes of the season opener, returning from an ankle injury while Christine Nairn lead Washington’s attack scoring one goal on a team high five shots. Washington’s defensive struggles from last year reappeared in the opener allowing Flash midfielder Vicky Losada to account for three goals.
FC Kansas City are also looking for the first win of the season after a 1-1 draw. Last year’s NWSL MVP Lauren Holiday hasn’t scored yet in Vlatko Andonovski’s new formation while Amy Rodriguez has thrived so far.
Holiday along with Erika Tymrak will be poised to create offensive opportunities against Washington’s backline and put pressure on keeper Ashlyn Harris.
Harris has allowed 36 goals in 19 starts for the Spirit last season, a troubling stat leading up to Saturday’s game against last season’s No. 2 ranked offense that added Rodriguez in the offseason.
Both teams are looking for their first win of the season.
