FC Kansas City adds four more from draft

FC Kansas City has signed 2014 NWSL College Draft picks Maegan Kelly, Frances Silva, Jenna Richmond and Morgan Marlborough the team announced Wednesday.

“We were very happy with our draft in January and thrilled that every player we selected had ties with the U-23 national team,”  Huw Williams, Director of Soccer Operations  said. “So far in camp they have all come to work hard and be a part of this team. I’m very happy with the progress they have made so far and look forward to seeing how they can help us accomplish our goals this season.”

Richmond was drafted in the second round at No. 16 overall from UCLA. The Centreville, Va., native had over her four year career  12 goals and 23 assists.

In her senior season, Richmond led the Bruins to their first-ever NCAA Championship in 2013. She was named first-team NSCAA All-Pacific Region and All-Pac-12, as well as first-team NSCAA Scholar All-America honors.

Marlborough was also drafted in the second round and was the 12th selection.After transferring to Santa Clara from Nebraska, Marlborough tallied 36 points with 15 goals in her senior season, and was named First-Team All-WCC.

The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native also helped to lead the Broncos to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

Silva was selected in the third round and 19th overall.

During her senior season at West Virginia, Silva had 43 points with 15 goals and 13 assists leading the Mountaineers to win the Big-12 tournament.

The Overland Park, Kan., native was named Soccer America’s MVP, the Big-12 Scholar Athlete in 2013, and was also a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist in 2013.

Kelly was drafted by Kansas City in the fourth round and was the 35th overall pick.

She is the all time assist leader at Marquette with 37 and was a third team NSCAA All-American selection in her senior season. The Kansas City, Mo., native will has the opportunity to play for her hometown club. Her sister Katie Kelly, who played in 7 matches for FCKC, is currently a trialist with the Houston Dash.
