Sky Blue FC has hired Stanford assistant coach Jay Cooney the team announced Friday.
Under his tenure, Cooney has developed Stanford goalkeepers that boast a 1.00 GAA.
The Wellesley, Mass., native spent the last 10 years at Stanford and served as the goalkeeping coach for FC Gold Pride in 2010. USWNT goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart was named Goalkeeper of the Year during that time with Gold Pride.
“Having Jay join Sky Blue FC as our goalkeeper coach provides our goalkeepers with another very experienced and knowledgeable coaching resource,” technical director and head coach Jim Gabarra said. “I know Jay is very excited to return to the professional level and I look forward to working with him this season.”
