The Houston Dash have named Randy Waldrum head coach, the club announced on Friday.
Waldrum previously coached Notre Dame’s women’s soccer team since 1999. He leaves behind a legacy at Notre Dame having won two national championships in 2005 and 2010.
“Randy was my first choice when I got involved in the coaching search, so I am extremely excited that he has come on board,” said Dash managing director Brian Ching. “His passion and enthusiasm were evident from the beginning of this process and his coaching ability is evident when you look at his success over the years. I am looking forward to working closely with him to make the Dash one of the premiere women’s teams in the world.”
The Irving. TX, native has previously coached at the University of Tulsa and Baylor University. He has also coached the U-23 U.S. National team since 2012.
The news of Waldrum’s hiring came after the Dash named their first three allocated players. The first task for the new coach is the NWSL Expansion Draft, which is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 10.
