Alex Sahlen to miss 2014 season, Thorns Acquire Nikki Marshall.

Western New York Flash defender Alex Sahlen will miss the 2014 season due to pregnancy, the team announced yesterday.

Sahlen and her husband Aaran Lines are expecting their first child next summer.

The 31-year-old, played 18 games tallying three assists before being sidelined with a torn plantar fascia.

Sahlen will continue to serve as the club’s President.

Portland Thorns FC acquired defender Nikki Marshall and the No. 9 pick in the 2014 NWSL College Draft from Seattle Reign FC, the club announced yesterday.

In return, Seattle received the No.6 pick in the 2014 draft and a second-round pick in 2015.

The trade sees Marshall return to Portland after being released by the team in September, picked up by the Washington Spirit and subsequently traded to Seattle.  She had previously stated that she was debating retirement.

The 25-year-old, played 22 games and registered an assist last season for the Thorns.
