Breakers add firepower up top, Seattle roster moves continue

The Boston Breakers signed forward Melissa Ortiz, the club announced Thursday.

The 23-year-old is a member of the Colombia Women’s National Team and played in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 2012 London Olympics.

Ortiz has United States citizenship and would not count against the two international slots allowed.The move is a step towards filling out the club’s scoring needs after trading Sydney Leroux and losing Kyah Simon to an ACL injury

The West Palm Beach, Fla.-native previously played collegiately for Lynn University before spending the 2013 season with KR Reykjavik in Iceland.

FC Kansas City acquired Liz Bogus and the 17th pick in the 2014 NWSL College Draft from the Seattle Reign on Thursday.
In return, Seattle receives the 15th pick in the upcoming draft and Kansas City’s third round pick in 2015.

The 29-year-old played in 20 matches for the Reign last season, tallying one goal and two assists. She previously played for the Boston Breakers and the Los Angeles Sol in WPS.
