On Wednesday, Sky Blue FC defender Melanie Booth announced her retirement. Booth, 29, made three appearances for the club during the 2013 NWSL inaugural season.
The Burlington, Ontario native has 65 caps at the senior level for Canada.
The defender made her national team debut in 2002 at the age of 17 and most recently won bronze medal for her country at the 2012 London Olympics.
After playing collegiately for the University of Florida Gators, Booth started her club career with the Toronto Lady Lynx. She’s also played for the Vancouver Whitecaps before being allocated to Sky Blue FC.
Also on Wednesday, FC Kansas City signed Nikki Krzysik for the 2014 NWSL season.
Krzysik was a selected by Seattle Reign FC in the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft, but chose not to play in the league’s inaugural season.
Kansas City acquired the midfielder’s rights in a July 1 trade that sent forward Renae Cuellar to Seattle.
The Ridgewood, N.J.- native has recently appeared for Apollon FC in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. She has previously played for the New York Fury, Philadelphia Independence and Chicago Red Stars after finishing her collegiate career at the University of Virginia.
On Nov. 8, Seattle Reign FC resigned defender Eli Reed for the 2014 season. The new deal includes a club option to keep Reed for 2015.
The 24-year-old played 17 games for Seattle last season tallying two assists.
