Seattle sends Amy Rodriguez to Kansas City for Kristie Mewis

The Seattle Reign announced on Thursday that the club has traded forward Amy Rodriguez to FC Kansas City in exchange for midfielder Kristie Mewis.

Due to NWSL rules an allocated player can only be traded for an allocated player of the same nationality. This means Rodriguez will likely be subsidized as Mewis was subsidized in the middle of the 2013 season

The 22-year-old midfielder made 20 appearances, and tallied one goal during her rookie campaign for FC Kansas City.

She joins Megan Rapinoe and Hope Solo as one of the Reign’s three U.S. allocated players.

Rodriguez missed the 2013 season while being pregnant with her first child. The Reign announced last month that she was working towards full fitness and being ready for the 2014 season.

She joins NWSL MVP Lauren Holiday and Rookie of the Year Erika Tymrak with the Blues and adds another attacking player to last season’s second-leading team in scoring.
