Sermanni Announces Roster for Brazil Friendly

U.S. Women’s National team head coach Tom Sermanni has named his 18-player roster that will face Brazil on Sunday.

Sermanni brought in four new faces in midfielders Erika Tymrak and Amber Brooks, forward Lindsay Horan and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.

Stephanie Cox was named to the roster for the Oct. 20 match against Australia and made her return to the national team after giving birth in April. She has 82 caps for the national team.

Tymrak and Horan each earned their second call-up. For Brooks, it is her third call-up after training with the senior team last April in Germany and in June when the United States took on Canada.

Horan, who currently plays for PSG in France, made her national team debut during the Algarve Cup in March. Tymrak, who was named NWSL Rookie of the Year, earned her first cap on Sept. 3 against Mexico.

Naeher is the lone player to earn her first call-up under Sermanni. She made nine appearances last season for the Boston Breakers and has previously played on the U-23 and U- 20 national teams.

Christen Press, Ashlyn Harris, Ali Krieger, Whitney Engen and Meghan Klingenberg, will all be playing for Tyresö in the clubs’ UEFA Women’s Champions League match against Fortuna Hjørring this weekend.

Midfielder Megan Rapinoe will also miss the international friendly due to Champions League action. Her club, Lyon, is up against Turbine Potsdam.

Brazil will be without superstar Marta who is also playing for Tyresö.
