Breakers Continue to Build Roster, Names Cat Whitehill Player-Assistant Coach

The Chicago Red Stars acquired the rights to defender Casey Short as well as a third round selection in the 2015 draft on Tuesday. The Breakers received the Red Stars’ 2nd round selection (No. 11 overall) in the 2014 NWSL College draft.

Short missed all of last season recovering from a torn ACL she suffered in the preseason while playing for the Under-23 United States National team. It is the fourth trade for the Breakers, who have had a busy off-season.

Last week, the Breakers named defender Cat Whitehill player-assistant coach for the 2014 NWSL season. Whitehill served as a player-coach last season after Lisa Cole parted ways with the club in August. The veteran defender had a goal and two assists, playing in all 22 games last season.
