Australian national team and Boston Breakers forward Kyah Simon will be out for 12 months after suffering a torn ACL during the Oct. 20 friendly against the United States.
Simon, 22, awkwardly twisted her right knee just 27 seconds after replacing captain Kate Gill in the 73rd minute.
Her loss is a huge blow for Australia as Simon will be out for next year’s World Cup qualifiers. Her injury will also be felt by the Boston Breakers in the NWSL.
She scored three goals and added three assists in 17 games for the club last season. Simon made her national team debut for Australia at the age of 16 and has scored seven goals in 29 appearances.
