The Trades Continue: Seattle Bolsters Front Line, Acquires Renae Cuellar

Over the weekend, we saw the second trade of NWSL send Carmelina Moscato to Boston and Adriana Leon to Chicago.  Forty-eight hours later a pair of Mexican internationals were the prime trade between FC Kansas City and Seattle.  Seattle also completed a transaction with Washington.

The deal with the Washington Spirit sent forward Lindsay Taylor to and a conditional fourth round pick in the 2014 college Draft.  They received a second round pick in the 2014 college draft.

The trade with FC Kansas City sent Mexican midfielder Teresa Noyola, a second round pick in the 2014 college draft as well as the rights to Nikki Kryzsik to the Blues.  Kryzsik was selected in the first round of the supplemental draft but has not played in 2013.  In return, the Reign acquired a third round pick in the 2014 college draft and Cuellar, who has led the league in goal scoring throughout the season and has tallied five goals on the season.

Kryzsik is currently playing in WPSL but has said in the past that she intends to play in NWSL next season.

MORE:  Why Cuellar Was Traded (via The Equalizer)

For a team that has been starved for goals, the Reign has added several goal scorers to their roster in the past few weeks having signed Megan Rapinoe and Kennya Cordner, acquired Jessica McDonald and now add Cuellar to the mix.  With Rapinoe finally on the field for Seattle, she now has a prime target running up front that has proven to give backlines an issue.

Taylor should inject a Spirit front line that has had trouble finding the back of the net as well.  The Spirit currently sit at the bottom of the table and have not won a match since May 16 when they defeated Seattle 4-2 (a match in which Taylor scored the opening goal of the match).

The Spirit waived midfielder/defender Domenica Hodak in order to add Taylor to their roster.

Both Cuellar (SEA) and Taylor (WSH) are expected to be available for selection in midweek matches on July 3.  Noyola may join FC Kansas City in Washington D.C. where they will take on the Spirit on July 3.  If not, she should be available for selection against Western New York on July 7.

Who Received What:

SEATTLE:  Fourth Round Draft Pick in 2014 college draft (WSH), Third Round Draft Pick in 2014 college draft (FCKC), Renae Cuellar (FCKC)

FC KANSAS CITY:  Teresa Noyola (SEA), Second Round Draft Pick in 2014 college draft (SEA), rights to Nikki Kryzsik (SEA)
