Chicago Red Stars / National Women's Soccer League / Seattle Reign FC

MATCH PREVIEW: Chicago at Seattle

Chicago Red Stars at Seattle Reign FC (Starfire Stadium)
11:00pm E.T./8:00pm P.T.

The Chicago Red Stars (3-5-3, 12 points) are coming off a ten day break where they last played to a 2-2 draw on June 19 against the Western New York Flash.

Alyssa Mautz scored just eight seconds into the match to give the Red Stars the lead and Leslie Osborne added a goal just before the half to give the Red Stars a 2-1 lead going into the break.  It looked as though Chicago would keep their winning streak going until a Brittany Taylor goal in the 89th minute forced the Red Stars to settle for a draw.

The biggest question for Chicago right now is who is going to be starting between the pipes tonight as Erin McCleod has returned from national team duty while Taylor Vancil has filled in and done very well.

Lori Chalupny will be one to watch (as always) having scored three goals on the season and has been the engine for a Red Stars squad that has improved over the past five matches.

The Red Stars have gone 3-1-1 in the month of June and look to finish the month strong.

Shannon Boxx (R. Knee Surgery), Zakiya Bywaters (L. Knee MCL Strain) and Jen Hoy (L. Quadriceps strain) are all out for tonight’s match.

The Seattle Reign FC ( 1-9-2, 5 points) are coming off their first win this past Wednesday in Boston.  It’s their third game in a week where they have gone 1-0-1.  Jessica Fishlock finished a Megan Rapinoe free kick and Christine Nairn scored the game winner in the 85th minute.

Kennya Cordner and Rapinoe will make their home debuts tonight.  Cordner did not play against Boston after being scratched just before the match.  She had a strong showing four days before against the Flash in a 1-1 draw.

The back four haven’t been consistent due to injury and suspension but Kiersten Dallstream will return from a one game suspension following a red card against Western New York.

No injuries reported this week for the Reign.

Last Matchup:

These two teams met for the first time on opening weekend in Chicago and played to a 1-1 draw.  Nairn and Lori Chalupny scored within minutes of each other and both sides are much improved since then.  Both teams are looking for three points to gain on FC Kansas City who is sitting in the fourth and final playoff spot right now.

Season Series:  0-0-1
