The Seattle Reign announced earlier this week that they have signed Megan Rapinoe, Stephanie Cox and Tobogan international Kennya Cordner.
Rapinoe has spent the first half of the NWSL season playing for Olympique Lyonnais in France. She helped Lyon to a league title and a league cup championship as well as to the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final were Lyon fell to Wolfsburg.
Rapinoe will add a wealth of experience for a young Reign FC squad and will look help produce some goals.
She was acquired during the National team allocations in January and joined the Reign on Friday following National team duty. She is expected to be available for Sunday’s match with Western New York. Her first home appearance will be on June 29 against Chicago.
Cox missed the early part of the NWSL season due to pregnancy but will be added to the roster by the end of the month. She will hope to help stabilize a Reign defense who has allowed a league high 19 goals on the season.
Cordner has starred for Trinidad and Tobago on the international side since she was 15 years old and was playing for the Reign FC Reserves. She notched three goals in four matches for the Reserves before earning a call-up to play with the Reign in a friendly against Haiti on June 2.
She will provide a much-needed spark up top where the Reign have been inconsistent in terms of finding the back of the net having scored just four times in 10 matches.
As per NWSL roster rules, the Reign have waived midfielder Lyndsey Patterson and forward Tiffany Cameron in order to get down to the maximum of 20 players.
Patterson saw 37 minutes in three appearances as a substitute and Cameron made four starts in seven appearance for the club. Both have been with the Reign since preseason camp.
