Chicago Red Stars midfielder Lori Chalupny has been named the NWSL Player of the Week for Week 10.
This recognition for Chalupny, who is 29, comes on the heels of the Red Stars’ comeback victory over FC Kansas City. The St. Louis native assisted on the game-tying goal, as well as drawing the penalty kick that led to Chicago’s third goal.
The assist came in the 29th minute, a pinpoint setup to Inka Griggs from the left flank. It was Chalupny’s second assist of the season, to go along with three goals.
Chicago’s penalty kick followed another crafty play from Chalupny, as she beat FCKC’s Nia Williams before being taken down in the area. The foul was the 29th Chalupny has suffered this year, a statistic that leads the league.
The Red Stars return to the pitch tomorrow night, June 19th, to take on the Western New York Flash. The game will be held at Benadictine Sports Complex in Lisle, Illinois. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 pm CDT.
